Pawsitive Beginnings Dog Day Care

Turning puppies into family pets one day at a time.

Why daycare is important for your dog?

The guiding principle behind dog day care is simple– provide a safe and healthy atmosphere with lots of  interaction, both with other dogs and people. Dogs can participate in group play, gnaw on a favorite toy, or hangout with humans who love them. The point is that they’re not at home by themselves.”

What is the leading cause of dog euthanasia?

Behavior problems, mainly fear aggression. Socializing your puppy plays a critical part in development, equally important as vaccines and other preventative health care. Beginning at 8-9 weeks, puppies need to be exposed to as many different places, people, and animals as possible without causing them to stress. Think of these encounters as inoculations, taking the fear out of new situations that may occur later in your dog’s life. Controlled play groups such as day care safely develop fluid dog-dog communication skills,  exposes your pup to a variety of people, and takes away the fear of the veterinary office. Play is also healthy for your pup! Wouldn’t it be nice to spend the evening with a calm, sleepy dog? Let us wear him out for you!

You cannot overdo socialization. It is the single smartest investment that you can make in your dog.

The kids at play

The First Day...

After completing an enrollment form and/or questionnaire, you are welcome to bring your dog to Pawsitive Beginnings for its first day of play....FREE!  The level of activity depends on how well the dog adapts to this new environment. Shy pups or older dogs who may not have been socialized well are never forced into the day care room with ten other rambunctious pups. On the other hand, a five month old Golden puppy might not have any hesitations about jumping into group play.

Where a dog can be a dog...

Day care at Pawsitive Beginnings starts at 7 am. Upon arrival, dogs are checked in and leashes and other belongings are safely stored in cubbies. The dogs are then allowed free play in the day care room, where most of the day’s energy is burned off in the next few hours. Plenty of toys are supplied for the pups to play with. The staff regularly interacts with the group, during which basic obedience commands are reinforced. Dogs will learn ‘off’, ‘wait’, and of course ‘come’.

During play, dogs learn lessons from each other such as ‘soft mouth’ and how to use their bodies to initiate play and prevent fights. Our day care room has windows on all sides so the play is always monitored by staff trained in canine behavior.

Weather permitting, the dogs are given free play   inside and out in our securely fenced play yard, complete with two wading pools and other playground equipment. Climbing on the slide is great for teaching the puppy   awareness of his back feet, which will boost confidence!

No person can be expected to be cheerful every day, and we cannot expect that from our dogs either. When one pup is feeling grumpy, he is simply removed from the group for a ‘time-out’ and placed in one of our large runs with water, a blanket, and something to chew on. After puppy has had some time to himself, he is encouraged to play again.

Be sure to ask about our holiday activities! We love to celebrate and hold annual activities such as a Halloween Costume Contest, Paw Print Turkey Thursday, and an Easter Egg Hunt.

We will gladly email digital pictures of your puppy’s play at no additional charge.
